Q & A
What is a moiré?
We’re glad you asked! It’s a pattern that appears when a set of lines, dots, or other patterns are overlaid at an angle over another pattern. You may have seen a moiré inoffset printing or when someone on TV wears a patterned outfit.
Why MIND MOIRÉ?
We tend to work in a space where art and film overlap. It can be simultaneously exciting, unexpected, risky, exhilarating, and rewarding, but it’s never boring or predictable. Neither is the work created in this overlapping space.
When we collaborate with someone on a project, our brains and ideas overlap too – often revealing new and exciting directions for the work to explore.
How did you become interested in moiré patterns?
When I was a kid my favorite toy was a set of different patterns printed on paper and clear plastic sheets. These sheets could be used to make moiré patterns, learn about halftone printing, and investigate the illusion of movement. This educational toy has informed my understanding of image making for decades.
Do you work with nonpfrofit organizations too?
Yes! If you work for a museum, gallery, a grant organization, or other arts institution and want to talk to us about a project, please reach out. We’ve curated screenings, helped artists install video work, and served on juries, among other things. We’d also love to help you with your grant applications.
I need some guidance or feedback on a project. Can we work together?
Schedule a free chat so we can talk about your project! And if you have an idea for something that isn’t discussed on this site, please reach out. We understand that making art doesn’t always follow a one size fits all approach.
